My replacement Kindle arrived today! Seriously, I think Amazon is magic.  Just magic.  I was so excited to see it that I wrote a very complementary email to the company about the awesome customer service rep who helped me through the whole process.  It was possibly the least painful return process I’ve ever experienced and he could not have been more helpful or friendly.

So how to properly celebrate? By checking out the new cupcake place I discovered mere blocks from my place. Behold, desert:

It's like cake, only better

Sure, I’m not much of a sweets eater, but there is something about a good cupcake with an interesting flavor.

Behold:  The Dreamsicle cupcake

Dreamy. No really.

So its cupcakes and books around here this evening.

Currently Reading: “The Kite Runner” By Khaled Hosseini. Yes, I’m probably the last person in the world to read it. It has been on my list forever, and I’m finally getting around to it.  I’m almost finished and have enjoyed it immensely.

Next up: “Dear John” By Nicholas Sparks.  It will probably be slightly cheesey and a tear-jerker, exactly the way I want my Nicholas Sparks to be.

I should have known that I would jinx myself.

The moment I go on and on about my kindle, the unthinkable happens….It breaks.

It should be noted that this isn’t my fault. You see I was hit by a truck. No, you actually did read that correctly. I was talking on the phone to my mother, innocently crossing the street, and a truck hit me.

I’m fine. Let me repeat that. I. AM. FINE. I am 100% ok. No trauma, no cuts no bruises.

But yes, I was hit by a truck.

Ahh, the joys of San Francisco drivers.

On the upside, several people did pull over to make sure the situation was under control.

I think I handled it well (is there etiquette for something like this?) as far as I was concerned no injuries made it a non event so I sent everyone on their way.

But here is the thing, somewhere between getting off of the train and getting into my apartment, the span of several hours, my kindle froze. And it would not revitalize itself. I tried resetting it and even cpr. No dice. The lovely people at amazon have a new one on the way and the old one is headed back to their direction.

I missed it dearly on my morning commute.

(I know some of you are probably dying to know, No, I did not fly out of my shoes, I didn’t even hit the pavement. I have cat like reflexes.)

So I’m temporarily without a kindle. Just in time for tonight’s bookclub, the book for which resides on my kindle, which is now in the hands of UPS. I of course will not explain to my bookclub, as I’ve never met these people. This is the type of situation where one immediately becomes “The girl who got hit by a truck”, and considering I’m still trying to live down “The girl who passed out in line for a roller coaster at the amusement park” I think I’ll pass.

I don’t know that I’ve addressed it here, but I seriously LOVE my kindle. Like enough that I want to marry it. Which would probably be a little bit difficult because I married Mountain Dew in 4th grade, and while we’ve been separated for awhile, I’ve never actually gotten a divorce.  I know that seems a little sleazy, but I’ve got a friend who married a baseball card in 3rd grade, and he’s been dating other women ever since. Scumbag.

Anyway, back to my Kindle love.

I never have to carry around heavy books. If that isn’t a reason to write love notes I’m not sure what is. I take the train to work everyday, so this is kind of a big deal.  In addition to the ability to hold thousands of books that I’ll never need to carry, it’s also saving me from walking funny due to a bum shoulder from carrying books in my handbag. Yeah, I’ve caught myself giving sympathetic glances to the people on the train lugging 400 page books. But certainly not in a smug way!

New releases are $9.99. Okay, blessing and a curse. I used to go to the libarary a lot more, so I’m not actually sure if I can point to any real cost savings. But still!! Other people are spending 23 bucks for hardbacks! No, we won’t mention the initial cost of the device, I’m sure I will have made up for that in book prices in the next few months.  So if you are debating one, make the move. I  haven’t had a moments regret.

The Recipe Club: A tale of Food and Friendship

With all the reading I’m doing for the 5 bookclubs I’ve joined (Whoops! Am I over doing it?), I’m getting behind on my DVR. So I caught up on Project Runway this evening. Ummm,  hello??? Ping’s model struts down the runway with her ass on display (not to mention last weeks disaster. Seriously, that outfit is what I look like when I stumble out of bed with a hangover and get caught up in my sheets), and she is STILL here? Oh Heidi, you disappoint me.
